Darkroom up and running

A NEW STUDENT-INSPIRED photographic darkroom has been launched at Willingdon Community School. Residents and councillors were among those invited to see the new to the area darkroom at the special opening event. The darkroom is fully equipped for a range of black and white traditional technique and is hoped to be a big boost for the school and community.

The darkroom came joint second to represent East Sussex in a national competition, which celebrates the achievements of young people making a difference in the community.

At the recent event headteacher Ian Jungius and councillor Stephen Shing gave speeches and people were given the chance to tour the facilities and join in on a pinhole photography workshop led by artist Rob Walker.

The darkroom was build after Dan Dunbar, Sam Webb and James Edwards, who all share a passion for photography was inspired following series of workshops last year and have all together worked hard for funding from the Youth Capital Fund.

Despite digital methods of photography becoming more popular, the school believes the hands-on process of seeing your own photographs being developed is an exciting one.

There is training and workshop programme, which has been subsidised though the Community Arts Department and facilities will be available at low rates for artists, local photographers and Community groups to use on there own projects.
